A buyer agent is a representative working solely for the buyer in a residential real estate transaction. The traditional definition and rules of buyer agent have blurred quite a bit over time as many national, real estate organizations have attempted to change the definition of a buyer agent. In short, buyer agents are now defined as those who agree to buy the property that is being sold in a sale that is being run on behalf of a buyer. This definition was created so that the buyer could make an offer and enter into an agreement with the seller to purchase the property. In order to enter into this agreement with a buyer agent was needed. The buyer agent was someone who was acting as an intermediary between the buyer and the seller and was paid by the seller in order to get the property handled.
